Breaking Wellness Barriers [Video]

Hi Byte Wellness Fam!

All this month, we’re taking a deep dive into the mechanics of wellness habits. We’re asking questions like: Now that I know what to eat to help myself heal, how do I actually change my eating habits?

Wednesday’s #PhyteWell Workshop introduced the STEM framework as a way to trouble-shoot barriers (which threaten to stem the tide of our wellness progress).

Setting and re-setting goals we never seem to reach can be downright demoralizing, especially when we can’t figure out WHY we’re not making progress. If you can relate, one of the first places to look for answers is at the goal itself.

Did you build a goal that is specific and measurable enough to give you some accountability (like the SMMERT goals framework)? Or is the goal so vague that it’s hard to know whether you’ve reached it or not?

Maybe, if we’re honest with ourselves, the goal is far too hard to reach. There are simply too many barriers in our way. That’s where STEM comes in.

STEM to Break Wellness Barriers

This past week, we confronted wellness barriers head on by putting our barriers into 1 of 4 buckets. If we can minimize the barriers in 3 out of 4 buckets, we’ll actually have a fighting chance of reaching our goal! Which wellness barrier buckets are you facing right now?

  • STUFF- don’t have the equipment I need to do the wellness practice

  • TIME- can’t find time to fit the wellness practice in with the rest of my day

  • ENJOYMENT- don’t like doing the wellness practice

  • MASTERY- don’t know how or don’t feel comfortable doing the wellness practice

Discussion Question:

  • Think about your main wellness goal. What has kept you from reaching that goal so far?

    Be honest! What are 1 or 2 BIG reasons you haven’t reached your goal. Those reasons are barriers. What STEM buckets do they fall into? Are these the same buckets your friends and family struggle with?
